Jeanine was born on June 24, 1933, in Remsen, Iowa, to William and Anna (Schmeider) Cross. Her family would soon relocate to Dubuque, Iowa. Jeanine married John F. Burbach on April 11, 1953 in Dubuque and they would eventually take root in Dickeyville, Wisconsin. There, they built their home and proceeded to raise their family of seven children. John preceded her in death on May 1, 2012.
Alongside the full-time job of raising their children, Jeanine would take a position as cook at Holy Ghost School in Dickeyville. She enjoyed that position for many years. Jeanine was a loving wife and mother. If there was a function her children or grandchildren were involved in, whether it be sports or the arts, mom and dad were there. Jeanine was dedicated to her faith and Holy Ghost Church in Dickeyville. She loved a good margarita and to play all card or board games, especially bingo, with family and friends. She also, cherished the “old neighborhood” get togethers.
Survivors include her two daughters, Leslie Burbach, Dubuque, IA, and Lynn (Doug) Hamel, Davenport, IA; three sons, John (Janet) Burbach, Bullhead City, AZ, Ron (Mia) Burbach, Dubuque, IA, and Rob (Julie) Burbach, Clayton, WI; three sisters-in-law, Betty (Bob) Leibfried, Shirley Burbach and Judy Burbach; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Burbach; her parents; two sons, Donald “Pearl” Burbach and Tom (Ivan Holum) Burbach; six sisters, Delores (Ray) Masuen, Modesta (Roman) Kemp, Lillian (Clyde) Pieper, Maxine (LaVerne) Kowalski, Anna Marie Klein and Eileen (Pee Wee) Driscoll; two brothers, Donnell (Anita) Cross and Merlin (Alma) Cross; and many in-laws.
Memorials in Jeanine’s name may be sent to Casey-McNett Funeral Home at 123 N. Jackson St., Cuba City, WI 53807.
The family would like to thank the staff of Stonehill Community Center and Dr. Tom Schrieber for their compassionate care of Jeanine.
