Sister Sharon Stangler, OP, died Sept. 21, 2026, at Stair Crest Senior Living Community, Muskego, Wis. Her Memorial Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 in the Faith & Fellowship Hall in Stair Crest. Casey-McNett Funeral Home and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.

She was born Oct. 28, 1939, to Frank and Ruth (McCown) Stangler in Conrad, Mont. She made her religious profession as a Poor School Sister of St. Dominic of Speyer, Germany, at Kettle Falls, Wash, in 1958, and received the religious name Sister Mary Dolores. The Sisters at Kettle Falls became the Dominican Sisters of Spokane, Wash., in 1986 and merged with the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa in 1995. She received a BSN from Seattle University, Wash., and an MPH from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill.

Sister Sharon’s ministry was dedicated to health care and education. In Washington, she ministered as a registered nurse at St. Martin Hospital, Tonasket; Mount Carmel Hospital, Colville; and St. Luke Hospital, Spokane. She was a public health nurse for the Spokane County Health District. She then served as assistant professor at Inter-Collegiate Nursing Center and taught wellness classes at Holy Family Hospital, both Spokane. Sister Sharon served the Spokane Dominican Congregation as a councilor on their leadership team and as director of sponsorship. She was director of DominiCare In-Home Service, Chewelah. In North Carolina, she ministered as assistant professor and clinical nurse at the University of North Carolina. She was passionate about caring for all those in need.

Sister Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Dorothy Stangler and Judy Christiaens. She is survived by sisters Linda Elliot, Mary Jo McGowan, and Kay Phillips; a brother, Robert Stangler; and her Dominican Sisters.
