Ruth A. Stoffel, 83, of Benton, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at MercyOne Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, June 28, 2025 at St. Patrick’s Church, Benton, Wisconsin, with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be in Shawnee Cemetery, New Diggings at a later date. Visitation will be held from 10-11:45 a.m. Saturday, June 28 at St. Patrick’s Church prior to the service. Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cuba City, Wisconsin, is assisting the family.
Ruth was born on May 2, 1942 in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, the daughter of Richard and Carole (Murray) Rowe. She graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1960. Ruth then attended UW-Stout where she earned her degree in education and met her future husband, Robert Stoffel. Ruth and Bob were united in marriage on December 26, 1964 at St. Joseph’s Church in Dodgeville.
Ruth earned her Master of Education Degree from UW-Platteville. She taught Home Economics and Title I Reading at Benton High School for 32 years, while also raising four children with Bob. She was a member of the National Education Association and Wisconsin Education Association. Ruth was an involved member of the Benton community for 53 years, assisting with the local food pantry and the annual Labor Day festivities. She had many friends in the community including at the Benton Bible Church Thrift Store where she was an avid patron. Ruth was a faithful member of St. Patrick’s Church and a member of the church council. She enjoyed reading, watching tennis and having a good cup of coffee. Ruth loved to travel, including trips to Ireland, the Dominican Republic, a Caribbean cruise, fishing trips to Canada and Disney. Ruth did not have a mean bone in her body and will be remembered for her kindness to everyone. Even in death, she is giving of herself as a bone and tissue donor.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert Stoffel, Benton, WI; three daughters, Cynthia (David) Steinert, Pewaukee, WI, Janice (partner, Chad Lorenzen) Stoffel, Janesville, WI, and Christine (Ken) Kemper, Appleton, WI; one son, Jeffrey (Julie) Stoffel, Nekoosa, WI; six grandchildren, Allison, Katelyn and Abigail Rokus, Elaina and Scedra Stoffel, and Kyle Kemper; and a cousin, Arlene Summers.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph and Ann (Van Thiel) Stoffel; and a brother-in-law, Richard Stoffel.
In lieu of flowers, a Ruth Stoffel Memorial Fund has been established. Memorials may be sent to the funeral home at 123 N. Jackson St., Cuba City, WI 53807.
The Stoffel Family would like to extend a special thank you to everyone at St. Dominic Villa in Hazel Green, for all the love and care given to Ruth during her eight month stay.
