Raymond P. Steinhart, 88, of Platteville, Wisconsin, went to his eternal resting place surrounded by family on Tuesday May 13, 2025. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2025, at St. Rose of Lima Church, Cuba City, Wisconsin, with Rev. David Flanagan and Deacon Bill Bussan officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Church Cemetery, Hanover, Iowa. Visitation will be held Sunday, May 18 from 2-6:00 p.m. at Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services where there will be a Parish Scripture Wake Service at 1:45 p.m. Visitation will also be held from 10-10:45 a.m. Monday at the church prior to the service.

Ray was born on May 8, 1937, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the son of Oswald and Mary (Byrnes) Steinhart. He was one of four children. He was united in marriage to Margaret Baxter on June 23, 1956 at St. Patrick’s Church in Waukon, Iowa. To this union, six children were born: Joan, John, Mary, Joseph, Gerald and Janet.

Ray attended Hanover County School for grades first through eighth. Ray continued his higher education with Heavy Equipment Training doing road work for the next ten years, working for Allamakee County, Kistler Construction and Reilly Construction of Ossian, Iowa. In April 1962, Ray went to work for Banworth and Udelhoven, retiring in March 2003. Ray continued to work for his son, John, at Steinhart’s Farm Service.

Ray loved attending sales and being with farmers. Ray's hobbies were playing cards, collecting miniature tractors and going to car races. Ray loved to go to county fairs and farm shows. During his lifetime, he was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Hanover, Holy Ghost Church in Dickeyville and St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City. Ray was especially proud of his 49 years of sobriety. Above all, Ray was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.

Ray is survived by three daughters, Joan Steinhart, Platteville, WI, and Mary Steinhart and Janet (Dennis) Loeffelholz, both of Cuba City, WI; two sons, John (Karen) Steinhart, Platteville, WI, and Jerry (Kathi) Steinhart, New Berlin, WI; one sister, Mary Catherine Kelleher, Lansing, IA; one sister-in-law, Sarah Hrdlicka, Charles City, IA; seven grandchildren, Karrie, Jennifer (Brad), Tony (Jamie), Joe (Abbey), Katherine (Robert), Jessica and Michael; 12 great-grandchildren, Austin, Ben, Kylie, Tyson, Cora, Jack, Finley, Oliver, Yuri, Rua, Wari and Kashi.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Steinhart, in December of 2021; a son, Joseph Leonard Steinhart; his brothers, Danny Joe Steinhart and a brother in infancy; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Leona and Leonard Baxter; and a brother-in-law, Donald Kelleher.
