Obituary

Marlene L. Schmieder, 89, of Cuba City, Wisconsin, passed away Friday, May 15, 2026. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 21, 2026, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church with Rev. Thomas Kelly officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at Casey-McNett Funeral Home. Additional visitation will take place from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday prior to the Mass. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Marlene was born on March 5, 1937, in Portage, Wisconsin, the daughter of Walter and Leila (Ehlen) Peacock. She graduated from Cuba City High School in 1955. Marlene was united in marriage to Wayne Schmieder on June 9, 1956, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on September 16, 2023.

Marlene worked for many years in the printing room at John Deere Tractor Works and was a faithful member of St. Rose of Lima Church. She enjoyed cheering on the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers and loved playing cards, spending time outdoors camping, fishing with family, and watching butterflies. There was almost always a puzzle in progress on Marlene’s kitchen table, a simple reminder of the home and warmth she created for those around her. Marlene especially treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren. She loved teaching her children card games as they were growing up and later enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren and taking them camping. Marlene will be remembered as a kind, loving, and motherly woman whose warmth and care touched everyone around her.

Survivors include her children, Patrick Schmieder, Cuba City, WI, and Michael (Cheryl) Schmieder, Platteville, WI; her grandchildren, Derek (Jaylnn) Schmieder, Kieler, WI, Todd Ingraham, Platteville, WI, and Kari (David) Finnegan, Virginia Beach, VA; her siblings, Karen Lange, Platteville, WI, Carol Fecht, Potosi, WI, Ronnie (Shelly) Peacock, Potosi, WI, and Arlene Peacock, Cassville, WI; her sister-in-law, Betty Peacock; her brother-in-law, Roger McDonald; her step-grandchildren, Jacob (Brittany) Wetter, Brandy (Casie) Wetter, and Crystal (Kevin) Kirk; three great-grandchildren, with twins on the way; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne; her parents, Walter and Leila; a sister, Mary Kay McDonald; a brother, Gary Peacock; and brothers-in-law, Clayton Lange and Johnny Fecht.

Memorials in Marlene’s name may be sent to Casey-McNett Funeral Home at 123 N. Jackson St., Cuba City, WI 53807.
