Donald K. "Mert" Kreul

Donald K. “Mert” Kreul, 93, of Benton, Wisconsin, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2025. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2025 at Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Cuba City, Wisconsin, with Pastor Bill Vasey officiating. Visitation will be held from 9-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will be in the Primitive Methodist Church Cemetery, Benton, Wisconsin.

Donald was born on August 23, 1931, in Benton, Wisconsin, the son of Ervin and Margaret (Harris) Kreul. He graduated from Benton High School in 1949 and was class president. Donald worked in the mines until he was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Alaska from 1954-1956. Donald married the love of his life, Deloris “Dee” St. Louis, on December 4, 1954. They had two children, Melvin Kreul and Janice Troy.

Donald worked in the mines and then went to Pillsbury in Dubuque, Iowa, where he worked as a mechanic until retiring in 1991. Donald loved fishing, woodworking and playing cards. He was a member of the VFW, was a fireman, and took care of the Primitive Methodist Church in Leadmine.

Donald is survived by his wife of 70 years, Deloris “Dee” Kreul, Benton, WI; his two children, Melvin Kreul and Janice Troy, both of Cuba City, WI; four grandchildren, Rebecca (Jeff) Fellenzer, Hazel Green, WI, Kenneth Kreul, Cuba City, WI, Dawn Golackson, Monroe, WI, and Jason Troy, Cuba City, WI; and seven great-grandchildren, Bailey and Braylen Fellenzer, Raygan and Riley Golackson, Emily Larson, Shytayla Bickett and Jaylee Troy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Alna “Sis” Loraine (Kreul) Watson.
