Dennis W. Vaassen

Dickeyville, Wisconsin Dennis W. Vaassen, 68, of Dickeyville, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center-Dubuque. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 16, 2011, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Dickeyville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Friday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City. Friends may also call after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home before the service. Dennis was born on August 7, 1942, in Cuba City, Wisconsin, the son of Bernard and Agnes (Timmerman) Vaassen. He married Joyce Belken on July 10, 1965. Dennis farmed for 34 years on the Vaassen farm, retiring in 1998. After retiring he worked for J&R Transport near Dickeyville. Dennis enjoyed playing ball when he was younger, bowling, golfing, going to his grandchildren’s events and cheering for the Packers and Badgers. He also enjoyed the many trips he and Joyce went on with his seed corn friends. Dennis sang in the church choir for many years. He always played cards on Wednesday night at Gooch’s with his friends. Survivors include his wife Joyce; a daughter, Pam (Ken) Cummings, of Dickeyville; three sons, Aaron Vaassen and Brian (Tammy) Vaassen, both of Cuba City, and Kevin Vaassen, of Dickeyville; a brother, Norbert (Rosemary) Vaassen, of Dickeyville; eleven grandchildren, Tyler, Keisha and Darrian Cummings, Chantle, Devion, Airianna, Hunter, Brady, Cassi, and Mykenzie Vaassen, and Peyton Paisley; two special grandchildren, John Buchholz and Lisa (Rob) White; and a great-granddaughter, Gabriella. He was preceded in death by a son, Allan, on February 13, 1969; a sister, Germaine Tranel; and three brothers, Arnold, LaVerne and Gilbert.
