Dave was born on October 16, 1942, in Green Bay, Wisconsin, the son of Alphonse and Lorraine (Vandeleest) Konshak. He was united in marriage to Mary “Betty” Florence on July 24, 1965. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2006. He married Diane Kieler on October 11, 2008.
Around the age of three years old, Dave’s mom noted in his “baby book” his interest in buses and trains. He was able to read the bus destination signs and rode the city bus beginning in kindergarten and throughout his school years. Dave always wanted to be a bus driver and finally realized his dream in 2012 when he bought an old Greyhound. The trains ran a couple of blocks behind his new home and he walked down to the tracks many times. Dave was involved in model railroading in HO scale since his high school years.
Dave spent the majority of his working years with the University of Wisconsin System serving the Board of Regents as Assistant Trust Officer for approximately 15 years. Dave retired from the University of Wisconsin in 1999 and began managing finances at St. Andrew Parish in Verona. In 2007, following the death of his wife Betty, Dave moved to the Dickeyville area where he found beautiful acreage on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi. Dave greatly enjoyed the woods and river.
In 2008, Dave met his soul mate, Diane. They had more things in common than you could ever imagine and within six months, their best friend, Rev. David Timmerman, united them in marriage. Dave loved his family and greatly enjoyed time spent with Diane, his brothers, sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He enjoyed camping, boating, kayaking, biking, roller blading and just about anything in nature, including his garden, and flowers and plants in the yard. Both of his sons inherited his interest in the yard and gardening.
Survivors include his wife, Diane Konshak, Cuba City, WI; two sons, Christopher (Wendy) Konshak, Appleton, WI, and Peter (Andrea) Konshak, Indianapolis, IN; two grandchildren, Alisha (Jason) Johnson, Portage, WI and Kyle Konshak, Rio, WI; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Autumn Johnson; and three brothers, Dwaine (Lynn) Konshak, Oconto, WI, Dennis Konshak, Fountain View, CA, and Theodore Konshak.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Betty Konshak; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Konshak.
Memorials in Dave’s name may be sent to Casey-McNett Funeral Home at 123 N. Jackson St., Cuba City, WI 53807.
The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Croix Hospice for their compassionate care of Dave.
