Charles J. “Chuck” Wartner, 68, of Benton, Wisconsin, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026. A graveside funeral service for family and friends will be held at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at St. Patrick’s Church Cemetery, Benton, Wisconsin, with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Casey-McNett Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Cuba City is assisting the family.
Chuck was born on December 20, 1957, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, the son of Melvin and Betty (Steckbauer) Wartner. He graduated from Portage High School in 1976 and earned a bachelor’s degree in business from University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. He was united in marriage to Renee McCrea on May 17, 1997 in Benton.
Chuck worked as an accounting manager at Harlan Sprague Dawley and then for Ameriprise Financial for 27 years where he owned his own branch. Chuck was an active member of the Benton community. He served on the school board, was a village board trustee, a member of the Benton Community Foundation and a member of St. Patrick’s Church choir. Chuck loved traveling, especially with family, hunting and fishing with his siblings, woodworking and golfing. He was an avid fan of the Badgers, Packers and Benton Zephyrs. Chuck loved a good joke and will be remembered for his kind, loving and generous nature.
Survivors include his wife, Renee Wartner, Benton, WI; two siblings, Cindy Wartner, Port Washington, WI, and David (Becky Calles) Wartner, La Crosse, WI; five sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Burlage, Kieler, WI, Myrna Sysko, Benton, WI, Marie (Dave) Keleher, Cambridge, WI, Michelle (Tim) Hendricks, Dodgeville, WI, and Marlene McCrea, Benton, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Wartner; his parents-in-law, Harold and Phoebe McCrea; and four brothers-in-law, Gary McCrea, Johnny McCrea, Jack Burlage and Jim Sysko.
Memorials in Chuck’s name may be sent to Casey-McNett Funeral Home at 123 N. Jackson St., Cuba City, WI 53807.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses of MercyOne Dubuque Medical Center and the staff of Hospice of Dubuque for their compassionate care of Chuck.
