Delbert was born on Oct. 29, 1925 at home in Lafayette County, Cuba City, Wisconsin, the son of Leonard and Frances (Wick) Guler. “Delbie” graduated from Cuba City High School in 1943 and was drafted into the Navy in 1944. He served on the USS McCracken and participated in the invasion of Okinawa. He was discharged in May 1946. He then married Rose Marie Hendricks on May 6, 1947 at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Cuba City. Delbert graduated from University Wisconsin-Platteville in 1950. He managed a grocery store in Albany, Wisconsin for two years and then moved back to Cuba City. “Delbie” worked for Russell Pinch at the local IGA store and later owned and managed the Royal Blue Store in Platteville. He then worked at Southwest Health Center in maintenance/housekeeping while also driving school bus in Cuba City. Delbert enjoyed coaching boys’ basketball in the 1st thru 4th grade levels for 14 years at St. Rose School. He and Rose Marie were season ticket holders for boys’ basketball games since 1953. “Delbie” enjoyed gardening, dancing, playing cards, telling a good joke, driving school bus, attending Cuba City sporting events and handing out bubble gum and chestnuts to everyone. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family. Delbert is survived by his wife of 61 years, Rose Marie; his children Tom (Diana) of Cuba City, Dr. Dan (Jody) Guler of Neenah, Wisconsin, Dr. Paul (Renee) Guler of Platteville, Wisconsin, Tim of Cuba City, and Mary (Dr. Steve) Dalsing of Hazel Green; eleven grandchildren, Chad, Curt and Brad Guler, Meghan Lippert, Allison, Carrie, and Erin Guler, and Ashley, Abbey , Tyler and Maggie Timmerman; two sisters-in-law, Ava Guler of Cuba City and Helen (Jack) Martin of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin; and 2 great grandchildren on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepdad, Orville Peart; his brothers LaVere, LaVerne “Jim”, Leonard “Midge”; and one granddaughter in infancy. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Dubuque especially Mary, Stephanie, and the other nurses. A special thank you to Fr. Flanagan for all of his visits and prayers.
